?SGM Retired Robert E. Stroot, 89, from St. Michael went to join his heavenly father on July 30, 2022. Bob was born in Euclid, was commonly known as Daddy, SGM or Uncle Bob. Dad proudly started his military career in the Army when he was 18 (1951). He served multiple tours in Korea and Vietnam in the Wolfehound and Airborne division, receiving many medals of honor for his bravery and service. After retiring from the Army, Bob worked 47 years with Herc-U-Lift. Dad was an avid card and cribbage player, he would always be willing to play a game when asked. After dad joined AA, he had a love for travel. His route was never from point A to point B, he would zig zag across the country to enjoy the scenery because he loved this great country. Dad has visited every state capital and over 500 different Hooters restaurants. Dad was a life long fan of the Minnesota Viking and Twins. He is survived by his sister, Clarice Ellington; five children, Gabriel Ellis, James Stroot (Rita), Sharon Oxendine (Glenn), Nancy Gillespie (David), Connie Cullen (Brian); eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Emma; brothers, Leo, Bernard, Walter, Jerome, Joseph, Francis, William (Billy), David; and sisters, Irene, Mary and Dorothy. His memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229.
